Building A Next-Generation Enterprise Mobility Strategy Requires Client-Aware Cloud Capabilities

Three forces will change the relationship between business, technology, and the IT organization: the consumerization of IT, the self-provisioning of technology solutions by business users, and increased competitiveness that drives the need for speed and agility. In a survey commissioned by Dell and Intel, Forrester gathered data from 150 IT decision makers at North American enterprises concerning their mobility, data center, and cloud strategies. Key findings are that: • IT decision makers are feeling consumerization and service-automation pressures from the business; workers are bringing their own devices to the workplace, forcing new work flows for business transactions, reporting, and IP creation. • IT managers are embracing cloud-hosted applications, infrastructure, and managed services to help increase productivity and drive down costs. • IT is facing new challenges in mobilizing the workforce without sacrificing data security as it supports more end-point devices. • IT leaders will need to focus on the people and process implications, as much as the technology, as workers expect anywhere, anytime connectivity on any device. Forrester Research recommends that IT and business leaders build a five-year roadmap for mobility to execute effectively and to take advantage of cloud-hosted infrastructure, applications, and managed services.
