The Intel® platform for communications infrastructure
The Intel® Atom™ processor C2000 product family for communications infrastructure enables low-end solutions that complete a scalable path from very high-end Intel® Xeon® processors, to mobile Intel® Core™ processors, and now reaching down to entry-level devices. This system-on-chip (SoC) has powerful processor cores (two, four, or eight) for control plane and data plane processing in routers, switches, gateways, and security appliances, among other device types.
Equipment manufacturers can use the same code, top to bottom, thus preserving their software investments. Designed for securing and routing Internet traffic, select SKUs integrate the same cryptographic acceleration engines available on a variety of Intel Xeon and Intel Core processor-based platforms.
The SoC provides optimal performance per watt, making it ideal for blades or appliances with stringent thermal constraints. There are a variety of integrated I/O interfaces, which help reduce board real estate and platform bill of materials (BOM) costs.
